The Norwegian Programme for Development, Research and Education (NUFU)

NUFU is a Norwegian programme for academic research and educational co-operation based on equal partnerships between institutions in Norway and in the south.
NUFU is an acronym in Norwegian language which standards for “The Norwegian Universities` Committee for development Research and education”

Goal
The goal of the NUFU-programme is to support the development of sustainable capacity and competence for research and research-based higher education in developing countries relevant to national development and poverty reduction, and to contribute to enhanced academic collaboration in the South and between South and North.

Mission

Makerere University aims at providing quality teaching, carry out research and offer professional services to meet the changing needs of society by utilizing World wide and internally generated human resources, information and technology to enhance the University's leading position in Uganda and beyond.

Vision

To be a centre of academic excellence, providing world-class teaching, research and service relevant to sustainable development needs of society.

Objectives

The objectives of NUFU programme are to;

• Promote mutually beneficial co-operation between Universities, university colleges and research  institutions in  Norway  and corresponding institutions in the south based on priorities of the institutions in the south. (primarily in Africa south of Sahara, south east Asia , central America and the middle east).
• Raise standards of research competence, hence raising conditions for growth and welfare in the south.

• Co-operate in the fields of research and education hence providing virtual contribution to political diversity and the democratization of the south.
• Give Norwegian researchers access to experience and materials which provide favorable conditions for the development of new perspectives.

• Promote International co-operation and communication which are cornerstones in all research work and one of the primary objectives for the reforms introduced to higher education in Norway.
